Find out some helpful tips about living in San Sebastian. How to get around, how to open a bank account, access to libraries and culture houses, car rental, bike and surfboard rental, and more....

ACCESS TO LIBRARIES Koldo Mitxelena Centre

  • It is located behind the cathedral. It is open from 8.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. (Monday to Friday) and from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Saturdays).
  • To be able to use its services, you need a free membership card. Two passport photos, a photocopy of your passport or I.D., and a letter from Lacunza. It will take them two weeks to give you the card.
  • You can borrow books, CD's and videos and use also free Internet access (you have to make an appointment in the morning, and at 2 p.m. they will tell you at what time you can use the internet).
OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT
  • If you go to the bank, the clerk will explain you the process of opening an account.
  • If you are under 26 years old, you can open a free “youth account” (“cuenta joven”). You can get a youth card (tarjeta joven) for 3 € (only in Building Societies, not in Banks). You will also get discounts in trains, shows and different shops, with the card.
  • If you open an account in “Caja Laboral” or in “Kutxa” you can get a card that you can use for public phone boxes and for urban buses.
  • Timetable: 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday.
