The cities Hendaya and Hondarribia is situated on each side of the border between France and Spain.
Hondarribia ("sand ford" in Basque) lies on the spanish side. The border town is sited on a little promontory facing Hendaya, France over the Txingudi bay. The town has an ancient old quarter with walls and a castle. Hondarribia also has a beach and a mountain called Jaizkibel. It holds the main airport in Gipuzkoa.
Hendaya is the most southwesterly town in France. There is a harbour and a long sand spit at the river´s mouth that has made the town popular as a seaside tourist resort. In the town square there is a weekly open-air market on Wednesdays. The "Great cross of Hendaye" is a stone cross carved with alchemical symbols that occultists find to contain encrypted information on a future global catastrophe.
The cities are separated by the river Bidassoa and there are a ferry that takes you to the other side.
