The Basque Country has two official laguages: Euskera and Spanish (Castellano). The entire
population speaks Spanish. The use of Euskera, the original language of The
Basque Country, is more restricted. It is a language whose origin is still
undetermined and it has no similarities at all with the neighboring languages.
In fact it is not even rooted to Latin or Indo-European.
Signs on the
roads, in airports, harbours, official centers, etc. are often bilingual. Signs will always
be posted in Spanish. Many Basque's also speak French because of its close
proximity and a general understanding of English is usual.
