Discover the different neighborhoods of San Sebastián!

What I like the most about San Sebastián is the diversity of landscapes, atmospheres, architectures and people. Sometimes very international and surfer sometimes very local and traditional, San Sebastián has something to offer for all tastes.

We want to take you on a virtual route through different neighborhoods of San Sebastián.

Center

It is undoubtedly the most famous neighborhood of San Sebastián and part of the emblematic postcard of the city with La Concha Bay, the Town Hall and the Buen Pastor Cathedral.
We also usually call the area the "Romantic Area" for its very "Belle Epoque" architecture that gives it a very elegant and very Parisian touch, how can you see it with the María Cristina bridge that has obelisks very similar to those of the Alejandro III bridge in Paris.

The center is a very pleasant area to walk around La Concha, it also has many shops on Calle San Martin or Avenida de Libertad, a good mix of international brands and smaller designer boutiques.

We want to recommend 3 remarkable places in the area:

Gipuzkoa square

It is a mini-garden within the city with a small river and is surrounded by very beautiful buildings such as the Diputación.
It is a very central place where many buses leave from – the perfect place to meet your friends. For Christmas, the square is always very well decorated and we invite you to see it at this time.

 Boulevard

It is a street that delimits the Center and the Old Town. If you want to live like a local, you can't miss the ice cream on the Boulevard. In summer, but also the rest of the year for some, you can see from sunset many people walking along the Boulevard to La Concha with an ice cream. They have many flavors and they let you make all the mix-ins you want: Have you ever tried chocolate brownie/mango?

The San Martin Market

It offers many fresh and local products of very good quality during the day. If you like to cook, you will love buying your meat, vegetables, fruits, cheeses... and talking with the producers there. In the lower part it also has a very comfortable small supermarket if you live in the area.
Every Thursday starting at 20:XNUMX p.m., the market changes, the stands close and a stage is set up in the middle of the market, it is time for the “Gastro Pote”. A free mini concert where you can drink a glass of wine or a beer with some sushi or some dumplings. A marvel!

Fat

Gros is one of the most dynamic and fashionable neighborhoods in San Sebastián. It is the neighborhood of surfers with the Zurriola beach, but it is also a very cultural neighborhood, the Kursaal (San Sebastián congress center) with its unique architecture is located in Gros and hosts the San Sebastian International Film Festival every year. Sebastian.

The Gros neighborhood is also very famous for its “pintxo pote” - a tradition that represents very well the San Sebastián lifestyle. Every Thursday, local and foreign people usually hang out in the bars of Gros having a pintxo and a drink for only €2. The creativity of the people of Gros has no limit, in recent years other traditions have appeared, such as the Pizza Pot, which has the same concept.

Our 3 favorite places in Gros are:

Peña y Goñi and Zabaleta streets

They are the epicenter of pintxo bars.

Ulia

Next to the Gros neighborhood you will see a small hill called Ulia and which has a viewpoint with impressive views of the entire city. You will go up in about 20 minutes and from there you can start many routes on foot (to the lighthouse or to Pasaia).

sagües

Finally, at the end of the Gros neighborhood there is an area called Sagües. It is a charming place where all kinds of people mix: young surfers, older people, families, locals and tourists. It is one of the best places to enjoy an impressive sunset. They also usually organize concerts and the area has a very good atmosphere.
We love going to order takeaway food in the bars of Gros and eating in Sagües next to the beach with our friends.

Aegean

Egia is our favorite neighborhood in the city and that is why we have installed our school in its center next to Cristina Enea Park and one minute from the train and bus stations.
We usually compare the Egia neighborhood to Greenwich village or Soho... you only need to walk a few minutes through the streets of Egia to understand why: Egia has a lot of soul and a very special touch – with artistic graffiti on the streets, an impressive cultural offer and life day and night with many concerts and events.

We want to show you our 3 favorite places in Egia:

Tobacco

It is the cultural center of the city. How the Guggenheim is said that Tabakalera is visited first from the outside, it is a spectacular building completely renovated and it was an old tobacco factory.
Inside, you can enjoy many spaces dedicated to culture: workshops, exhibitions, talks, spaces dedicated to creativity, a library, and even concerts and movies.
We also recommend you go to the top floor to enjoy the rooftop with an impressive view and before leaving, don't miss the coffee from the cafeteria, you will love it and you will surely see some Spanish students from our school there

Cristina Enea Park

It is the green lung of San Sebastián and connects various areas of the city. If you like to run, it is a perfect space for you to forget about the noise of the city for a moment. The Cristina Enea park always surprises with the number of flowers and animals that you will be able to find, even peacocks and swans. It is a recommended place for any season of the year, my favorite is autumn when all the trees change colors.

Lacunza IH

How not to mention our school? Our Lacunza IH Spanish school is located on Camino Mundaiz, right in front of the Cristina Enea park and just 1 minute walk from Tabakalera.
We have 17 classrooms, all with air conditioning and heating, a social space with coffee machines, snacks, and sofas to meet other students, and an open-air terrace that students use to read, study, and share good times, like during our barbecues. , for example.

The Ancient

El Antiguo is the westernmost neighborhood of the city, you can get there on foot or by bike along the Paseo de la Concha or if you have less time by bus from the center in a few minutes.
It is an area a little less touristy than the downtown neighborhoods but we encourage you to get to know and enjoy a very local atmosphere.
It has its own beach: Ondarreta and its own lifestyle.

Mattia street

It is the main street of the neighborhood and has a lot of life all year round thanks to its bars and shops. Go ahead and have a drink on a game day for Real Sociedad – our local soccer team – and you will never want to change your neighborhood.

Miramar Palace

It is a very peculiar building from the 19th century and has a very amazing history.
Miramar always attracts attention for its architecture that looks a lot like a British mansion. It was the summer residence of the Kings of Spain since 1893 when Queen María Cristina decided to spend her summers in San Sebastián, attracted by the quality of life and the very pleasant climate of the area. Since then, San Sebastián has become the preferred European destination for kings and nobility.

Mount Igueldo

Next to the Old, you can not miss the Monte Igueldo that offers you a trip back in time. You will be able to go up thanks to an authentic funicular (the bravest can walk up) and you will arrive at a 100% vintage mini-attraction park with attractions such as Swiss Mountain or the House of Terror. It is a very familiar place but also where you can go with your friends. You also have very good views and of course bars to have a drink.

There are many other very beautiful neighborhoods in San Sebastián, such as the Old Town, Loyola, Aiete... that we will see another time.

We hope you liked our mini virtual route and we are waiting for you in San Sebastián and in Lacunza IH with open arms!

We recommend you visit the page of the San Sebastian Tourist Office with lots of additional information.
