Feast of St. John

In the early hours of June 24th, the streets of San Sebastian are lit with the flickering light of bonfires, lit at midnight on the 23rd, for a daylong celebration of the Feast of St. John. The bonfires are a symbolic way of driving away evil spirits and ushering in the summer. In San Sebastian, the St. John's Ash Tree in the Constitution Square receives a traditional blessing.
